Week 1 of our Mealworms
In Science this week we began our study of the life cycle of mealworms. We made habitats for them out of wood chips, oatmeal and apples and have been observing them for the past couple of days. This observation will continue for about 5-6 weeks. The kids love it because these plain little worms turn into big black beetles! (which we will release out into Nature's Alley). More pictures to follow as the changes take place.

2nd grade speaker
Today Malcolm Hill, brother of Lauryn and Evan Hill, came to talk to 2nd grade students about respect and doing the right thing. Malcolm attended Anderson, Clark Middle School, Liberty High School and is now on the football team at Rice University. He talked to the students about his experiences in elementary, middle and high school with regards to respect and doing the right thing. What an awesome young man to be a shining example for our students. They (along with the teachers) were very inspired!
Boxes of Hope and Inspiration
What an inspirational day we've had. This is our boxes of hope and inspiration project. We drew names and for the past week when we've completed our work we made a drawing, a poem or short story, a letter of encouragement or inspiration and a gift for the person whose name we drew. The whole thing was a secret until our reveal day (today) when we got to open our presents. We talked alot about how gifts from the heart mean more than gifts that you buy in a store because you put your time and effort into each one of them. Here are some of our fun pictures!

Boxes of Hope and Inspiration
Sorry this is so late getting up, but I wanted everyone to see the pictures The kids worked really hard for a week on a poem, a letter of inpiration, a drawing, a story, and a present for someone in the class. Because they drew names and the presents were wrapped, no one knew who their present was from until they opened it and read the letter. It was a fun time and a wonderful lesson that sometimes the best presents aren't the ones bought in the stores!
